Trivia
Today’s Question: Who invented “freebie marketing,” the concept of either giving away a salable item for nothing or charging an extremely low price to generate a continual market for another, generally disposable item?
Previous Question: In 1985 officials of a New York supermarket chain advertised for “part-time career associate scanning professionals.” What job position were they trying to fill?
Answer: The position they were trying to fill was that of a Checkout Clerk.
The phrase “part-time career associate scanning professionals” reminds me of all the business plans I’ve seen that use lengthy phrases and complex terms to describe what the company does.
Don’t do this. Rather, write and speak simply so that people quickly understand you.
This advertisement most likely resulted in few responses (because people couldn’t really understand what the job was), and those that did respond were probably disappointed when they learned what the job really was.
