Child Care Business Plan
Unless you are lucky enough to have contacts with deep pockets who will invest in your child care business, you will likely need to submit your business plan to professional investors or lenders for their consideration. When doing this, don't consider the business plan an afterthought - it is a document that has to be as passionate and convincing on paper as you would be in person. If it is not, you will probably not get the opportunity to meet in person.
These are a couple of ways to make sure your plan gets noticed when it sits on the desk of someone who reads hundreds or thousands of business plans a year.
But before you begin, if you're scratching your head wondering "How do I make a business plan?" read through this article carefully to help you learn more, and feel free to check out some more of the resources we provide on the subject.
Although this is not in the cards for everyone, developing a proprietary child care or teaching method that is proven to be an improvement over competition can be one great way to be noticed. If the new method has not been tested, its value is uncertain, but if you can test it out and find evidence of its ability to improve learning or behavior in children, then you have a strong argument in your plan.
Remember that intellectual property is only useful if it is defensible against imitation. For a child care method, this would be with a patent. Demonstrate that a patent has been secured or that a patent is pending and remember that you do not have to give away the secrets of how this method works until it is protected by patent.
Even with existing methods, you can stand out from other plans by presenting a clear and compelling case for the opportunity that exists for your new child care center. This can be because of the lack of competitors in your vicinity or because there is both population growth and an inability of existing child care options to grow or grow fast enough to keep up with the need. If you can demonstrate a deep knowledge of the size of the customer market available or how it will grow to in the future, you can make the case for your business well. It doesn't matter so much that you are opening a common type of business; being able to spot an opportunity where others haven't seen it yet is all that is necessary to succeed.
